H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND WELCOMING DR. JOSE ITZIGSHON

ON THE OCCASION OF HIS VISIT TO THE RHODE ISLAND STATE HOUSE

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Diaz, and Slater

     WHEREAS, Jose Itzigshon has tirelessly supported, advocated, and fought for the

betterment and equality of Dominican Americans. His amazing talents, research, and literary

skills resulted in the publication of “Developing Poverty: The State, Labor Market Deregulation,

and the Informal Economy in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic,” and “American

Faultiness: Class, Race, and the Dominican Experience,”; and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Itzigshon is a contributing and collaborative author in

myriad books and has published a vast array of journal articles; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Itzigshon received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, cum laude, from

the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Johns

Hopkins University; and

     WHEREAS, Not only is Dr. Itzigshon a noted Associate Professor at Brown University,

he also spends a vast amount of his energy on research on such topics as “identity and group

formation” and “the political economy of inequality”; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Itzigshon has brought a wealth of humanity and insight into the

economic, political, and social issues facing Dominican-Americans and the Dominican Republic.

His work has shaped and continues to build a brighter future for many people in our state and the

world community, and he is eminently worthy of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors and warmly welcomes Jose Itzigshon to the Rhode Island

State House. We furthermore thank him for his noble efforts on behalf of the people of Rhode

Island and the Dominican Republic, and wish him continued success, good health, and

fulfillment; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized to transmit a

duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Jose Itzigshon, Ph.D.
