H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING THE FIFTH DAY OF JUNE AS MAJ-EN RESPECT FOR LIVING THINGS DAY

     WHEREAS, Maj-en, a fourteen year old Samoyed, has interacted with thousands of

schoolchildren and adults as a tireless therapy working dog; and

     WHEREAS, This House recognizes the beauty and magic of the human-animal

companion bond, and that the unconditional love between a pet and a person can go a long way

toward building a friendlier and more peaceful world for all living things; and

     WHEREAS, We also celebrate the creativity of schoolchildren illustrated through

writing, drawing, and singing, and the compassion of adults, giving a caring and friendly smile,

kind word, or assistance to someone in distress; and

     WHEREAS, We are grateful for our four-legged friends who enrich our lives, our

families, and our society; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims that the fifth day of June shall be known in perpetuity as

Maj-en Respect for Living Things Day” in the State of Rhode Island.
