S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING APRIL 28, 2010, AS "RHODE ISLAND SCHOLARSHIP ADVOCATES DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Since 2006, upon enactment of the Rhode Island Corporate Scholarship Tax

Credit Program, financially disadvantaged families in the State of Rhode Island have had

increased opportunities for choices in their children’s educational environment; and

     WHEREAS, For the past three school years, including the current one, on average 400

underprivileged students in Rhode Island have benefitted from scholarship assistance through the

Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit Program to attend a school of their choice; and

     WHEREAS, Thanks in part to the support of the Rhode Island General Assembly and the

Rhode Island business community, families in the state now have the ability to consider pursuing

academic excellence at a school of their choosing, regardless of geographic or economic

limitations; and

     WHEREAS, On April 28, 2010, supporters of the Rhode Island Corporate Scholarship

Tax Credit Program, through the Rhode Island Scholarship Advocates, converged on the Rhode

Island State House to show their support for educational opportunities for all families in Rhode

Island who desire to participate in the program; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims April 28, 2010, as “Rhode Island Scholarship Advocates Day” and recognizes

the achievements of the participating students and schools; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Executive Director of the Rhode Island

Scholarship Advocates.
