S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

URGING ALL COMPANIES WORKING IN RHODE ISLAND DUE TO THE 2010 FLOOD TO HIRE RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Gallo, Ciccone, McBurney, Felag, and Maselli

     WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations has recently been

crippled by the Flood of 2010; and

     WHEREAS, The entire State has been affected by this natural disaster; and

     WHEREAS, The damage to homes and businesses is immeasurable to those affected; and

     WHEREAS, President Obama has declared the State of Rhode Island and Providence

Plantations a Federal Disaster Zone; and

     WHEREAS, Numerous businesses and contractors are performing restoration and

recovery work as the State rebuilds from this flood; and

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island unemployment rates remain at all time highs; now therefore

be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby strongly encourages all businesses performing restoration or recovery work due to the

flood, to hire Rhode Island residents to perform that work; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby strongly encourages any person or company in

need of restoration or recovery work to give preference to Rhode Island contractors and firms;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Economic Development

     

Corporation.
