H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING KYLE PORTO ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men

toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan;

and

     WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts and attainment of

this rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas, but also demonstrates the

courage and tenacity to pursue a goal over a long period of time; and

     WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge, the pinnacle of achievement with the Boy

Scouts of America, is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all the

young men who enter Scouting; and

     WHEREAS, Kyle Porto is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

WHEREAS, Kyle is a member of Troop 6, Bristol, Rhode Island. Using his skills and

abilities for the common good, he has earned thirty-nine merit badges and completed a service

project within the Town of Bristol at the Bristol Train of Artillery, by cleaning and repairing the

cobblestone driveway for the benefit of the community; and

     WHEREAS, Attainment of the rank of Eagle confers upon the Eagle Scout an honor that

will dignify him for the rest of his life. It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our

youth and to celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Kyle exemplifies everything an

Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors Kyle Porto for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle

Scout. We extend our deepest appreciation to Kyle Porto for his untiring service to the

community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this

great state may follow. We send him our very best wishes for good health and happiness at his

Eagle Court of Honor on May 16, 2010, and in the months and years ahead; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kyle Porto.
