WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men

toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan;

and

WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts and attainment of

this rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas, and also demonstrates the

courage and tenacity to pursue a goal over a long period of time; and

WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge, the pinnacle of achievement with the Boy

Scouts of America, is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all the

young men who enter scouting; and

WHEREAS, Michael DuPont is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

WHEREAS, Michael began his scouting career in the third grade as a Cub Scout and

advanced through the ranks, ultimately crossing over to Boy Scouts joining Troop 6, Barrington,

Rhode Island, where he pursued the rank of Eagle. Using his skills and abilities for the common

good, he has earned twenty-nine merit badges, served in leadership roles, participated in multiple

troop activities, and participated in over fifty community service projects; and

WHEREAS, Michael decided that his Eagle Project would be to help the neighborhood

by doing repairs to three stained glass windows at Saint John’s Episcopal Church. He stripped

old flaking paint, sanded down the borders, and repainted them. To help cut the costs, Michael

Michael organized his fellow scouts to help him complete this task. Michael and his fellow

scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out their project for

the parishioners of Saint John’s Episcopal Church and the community; and
