H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING MARK ADDISON BAKER ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men

toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan;

and

     WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts and attainment of

this rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas, but also demonstrates the

courage and tenacity to pursue a goal over a long period of time; and

     WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge, the pinnacle of achievement with the Boys

Scouts of America, is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all the

young men who enter Scouting; and

     WHEREAS, Mark Addison Baker is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

     WHEREAS, Mark is a member of Troop 15, Charlestown, Rhode Island. Using his skills

and abilities for the common good, he has earned thirty-five merit badges and completed a service

project within the Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department, which consisted of cleaning

and repairing picnic tables for the benefit of the community; and

     WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle also requires demonstration of good character

and community service. Mark has demonstrated this by volunteering his time at church summer

camps for two years as a group leader. He remains active in his church as a communion server;

and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Eagle Scout Mark Addison Baker has volunteered his time to

help repair homes in underserved communities on two missionary trips sponsored by Saint

Andrews Lutheran Church; and

     WHEREAS, An honor student at Chariho High School, Mark has recently been inducted

into the National Honor Society. After graduation, Mark hopes to attend the United States Coast

Guard Academy; and

     WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle confers upon the Eagle Scout an honor that will

dignify him for the rest of his life. It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our

youth and to celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Mark exemplifies everything

an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors Mark Addison Baker for all he has done to attain the rank

of Eagle Scout; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That we extend our deepest appreciation to Mark Addison Baker for his

untiring service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication

by which the youth of this great state may follow. We extend to him our very best wishes for

good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Mark Addison Baker.
