S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JUNE 8, 2010, AS "IRENE VOCK GILLIS AND LOUISE VOCK

SCHOFIELD DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, There are visionaries who come along every once in a while wanting only to

make their community a better place; and

     WHEREAS, The preservation of land is a gift for generations to come - a gift for those

who enjoy the great outdoors, healthy soil, clean water, fresh air, and the life that surrounds all of

us; and

     WHEREAS, When those who believe in land preservation come together with those who

believe that the health and welfare of their community stems from a robust natural environment,

good will and the promise of a better future result; and

     WHEREAS, The voting population of the State of Rhode Island and Providence

Plantations has consistently approved open space bond referendums in an affirmation that a

healthy state requires a healthy environment; and

     WHEREAS, Nearly 10 years ago, Irene and Louise, two daughters of Edward D. Vock,

wanted nothing more than to memorialize their father for loving the land and living from it, and

promised to preserve his land for generations; and

     WHEREAS, All involved in this open space acquisition can be proud of the two owners

and all those who helped make this great gift possible; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims June 8, 2010, to be Irene Vock Gillis and Louise Vock Schofield Day,

dedicated to the two sisters who helped to make the Edward D. Vock Conservation Area possible;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Irene Vock Gillis and Louise Vock Schofield.
