S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ANTHONY J. TAVARES IV AND BENJAMIN K. TAVARES UPON ACHIEVING RICHMOND GRANGE #6 2010 COMMUNITY SERVICE "CITIZENS OF THE YEAR"

     WHEREAS, Richmond Grange is proud to honor Anthony J. Tavares IV and Benjamin

K. Tavares, its 2010 Community Service Citizens of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Tony is 15 and Ben is 10, and they are active members of the community.

The boys belong to and participate in both 4-H and Richmond Grange. At Richmond Grange,

they regularly attend meetings, have put on programs, and always help with Roast Beef Dinners;

and

     WHEREAS, Last June, the two brothers raised funds by donating time to a petting zoo

during the three days of the South County Balloon Festival. All proceeds were split between West

Greenwich Rescue #2 and Hianloland Fire Station, two volunteer organizations that serve the

local area; and

     WHEREAS, Tony and Ben have worked with the 4-H on a Corned Beef Dinner

Fundraiser, where they helped prepare, cook, serve, and clean up. The boys also supported the

Southern Rhode Island 4-H on a Pig Roast Fundraiser. During the Pig Roast Fundraiser, in

addition to supplying culinary support, they were responsible for taking care of their animals and

shows. They also volunteer their time to work with their grandfather, Ken Andrews, to provide a

Chicken BBQ for the Narragansett FFA Chapter; and

     WHEREAS, The boys are always willing to volunteer at the Washington County Fair.

They come to clean-up day to help ready the Fair for its season. During the Fair, they staff the

Washington County Fair Pomona Kitchen, stocking soda, distributing ice, and assisting with any

other tasks they are given; and

     WHEREAS, Tony and Ben still have time for other activities. The boys maintain good

grades and are on the honor roll at their Exeter-West Greenwich Schools. Tony plays football for

the Exeter-West Greenwich High School team and soccer for the recreational team. Ben plays

competitive and recreational soccer. They are both very active in 4-H, showing swine and

poultry; and

WHEREAS, Tony and Ben give their time unselfishly. Whether it’s a fundraising group

or a family member that needs their support, they will be there. We value all they do for the

community, and believe that they will continue to do great things; and

WHEREAS, Richmond Grange has selected Anthony J. Tavares IV and Benjamin K.

Tavares as its 2010 Citizens of the Year; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby honors Anthony J. Tavares IV and Benjamin K. Tavares for their selection as Richmond

Grange #6 2010 Community Service Citizens of the Year. We extend our deepest appreciation to

Anthony J. Tavares IV and Benjamin K. Tavares for their faithful service, and for setting a high

standard of commitment and dedication by which other youth of this great state may follow. We

extend to them our very best wishes for good health and happiness in the months and years ahead;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Anthony J. Tavares IV and Benjamin K.

Tavares.
