H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING DR. MATOR M.F. KPANGBAI, MBA, ED.D.

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Dr. Mator M.F. Kpangbai was born in Gbarnga City,

Liberia, where he attended St. Martin's Catholic, Booker Washington Institute, and the Gbarnga

Methodist Mission Schools. He later attained a Doctor of Education degree in Educational

Leadership with high distinction, and a Master's of Business Administration degree in

Accounting; and

     WHEREAS, Upon immigrating to the United States, Dr. Kpangbai embarked on a career

in the precious metals manufacturing industry. In 1993, he was hired as a mathematics teacher by

the Providence School District, which appointed him as a Middle School Assistant Principal in

2000. Five years later, he was promoted to the position of High School Principal; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Kpangbai has also been a member of myriad boards and advisory

councils. Beginning in the 1990's, he was elected Secretary General of the Liberian Community

Association of Rhode Island, Inc. (LCARI). He also served as Chair of the association's

Education Committee where, complementing his responsibilities within the school department, he

oversaw educational and improvement needs of the association's children and youth. In 2004, he

was named President of the association; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Kpangbai was also a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers in

Providence Schools, and has served as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Trinity

United Methodist Church and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trinity Restoration, Inc.;

and

     WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of about one million students in Liberia, Dr.

Kpangbai was nominated and confirmed in May of 2010 as the new Deputy Minister of

Education for Instruction, Ministry of Education, for the Republic of Liberia; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Kpangbai is eminently deserving of the leadership, awards, honors, and

trust that have been afforded to him and he has fully distinguished himself as a person worthy of

our recognition and admiration; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors Dr. Mator M.F. Kpangbai and congratulates him on his

new position as the Deputy Minister of Education for Instruction in the Republic of Liberia. We

furthermore extend our deepest appreciation for his invaluable service to the students of the

Providence School District and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Dr. Mator M.F. Kpangbai.
