S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

THANKING SENATOR LEO R. BLAIS FOR HIS EIGHTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF RHODE ISLAND AS A MEMBER OF THE RHODE ISLAND SENATE

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Leo Blais was first elected to public office in 1992,

representing Coventry, Foster, and Scituate in the Senate. He pledged to represent his constituents

with integrity and honor, to oppose government waste, and to fight diligently on behalf of good

government, and he also voiced support for reform issues such as pharmacy laws providing

flexibility to consumers and input when small business regulations are established and

implemented; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Blais was born on March 7, 1957. He graduated from the University

of Rhode Island, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. Senator Blais is a licensed

Pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island. He is married to Beverly A. Webster, and is the proud

father of Jeremy and Leanne; and

     WHEREAS, After he earned a seat in the Senate he continued to champion the causes of

his District 21 constituents. Senator Blais gained a reputation for the energy he devoted to the

legislative process and for his commitment to engaging in full and open debate; and

     WHEREAS, As a Pharmacist and Pharmacy owner, he has been a consistent advocate for

the small business community throughout his tenure in public service. Senator Blais successfully

pushed legislation through the General Assembly to establish a Rhode Island Organ Donor

Registry and to add a one-time tax credit for living organ donors. He has championed the issue of

quality of life for the disabled and chronically ill; and

     WHEREAS, During his time serving the people of Rhode Island, Senator Blais sponsored

legislation regarding public safety, the environment, child welfare and protection, senior citizens,

education, and economic development; and

     WHEREAS, In his spare time he enjoys being with his wife and children, reading, and

listening to classical music; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby thanks Senator Blais for his distinguished service as a member of the Rhode Island Senate

from 1993 to 2010. We will miss his integrity and the passion he brought to the State House

every day on behalf of all Rhode Islanders; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Senator Leo R. Blais.
