RELATING TO
HUMAN SERVICES - PUBLIC ASSISTANCE ACT

It is enacted by the
General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 40-6-1 of the General Laws in Chapter
40-6 entitled "Public
Assistance Act" is
hereby amended to read as follows:
40-6-1. Short
title -- "Public assistance" and "department" defined. --
(a) This
chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Public
Assistance Act".
(b) Definitions. – As
used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings set
forth herein, unless the context in which such terms are
used clearly indicates to the contrary:
(1) "Public
Assistance" means General general
public assistance (GPA),; supplemental
security income (SSI),; RI Works pursuant to
chapter 40-5.2; child care assistance; medical
assistance and food stamps (FS) supplemental
nutritional assistance program (SNAP) pursuant to
7 U.S.C. section 2011 et seq.,;
which programs are administered and/or financed in whole or in
part by the , shall
constitute public assistance. For
purposes of this chapter, the term "department".
(2)
"Department" shall mean the
