S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JANUARY 26, 2011, TO BE "HOMELESS MEMORIAL DAY" IN THE

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Tassoni, and Paiva-Weed

     WHEREAS, The 2010 calendar year brought about an Emergency Winter Shelter crisis

across Rhode Island with an estimated shortage of 282 beds statewide for those persons who were

seeking emergency shelter; and

     WHEREAS, Due to many factors, a record number of first-time homeless emerged in

2010; and  

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless and its fifty-one service and

supporting agency members are committed to making Rhode Island a state that refuses to let any

man, woman, or child be homeless; now, therefore be it 

      RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims January 26th of 2011 to be “Homeless Memorial Day” in the State of Rhode

Island and urges all the citizens of the state to join in remembering members of the homeless

community who have passed during the 2010 calendar year; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this Senate furthermore recognizes the valiant efforts of the Rhode

Island Coalition for the Homeless and its fifty-one agency members and thanks them for

providing crucial services to those individuals who are so in need of assistance in our state; and

be it further

     RESOLVED, That Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Brenda Clements, Executive Director of the

Statewide Housing Action Coalition.
