S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 2011 AS A "DAY OF CARING" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Felag, Walaska, Ciccone, Pichardo, and Ottiano

     WHEREAS, The Pioneers is the world’s largest industry-related volunteer organization. 

This year marks the auspicious occasion of the organization’s 100th Anniversary; and

     WHEREAS, The Pioneers is comprised of more than 120,000 members from across the

United States. The membership consists of current and former employees of Verizon, who

contribute millions of hours of community service each year; and 

     WHEREAS, The local affiliate of the Pioneers is the William J. Denver Chapter and is

very active throughout Rhode Island. For many years, the Chapter has supported Rhode Island

veterans with community service, donations, and time; and 

     WHEREAS, During this year’s “Day of Caring” celebration, the William J. Denver

Chapter will be honoring the residents of the Rhode Island Veterans’ Home with a luncheon and

the presentation of companion radios for each of their one hundred and twenty-one residents;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims Saturday, March 26th of 2011 to be a “Day of Caring.”  We furthermore applaud

the Pioneer organization on its 100th Anniversary and recognize and thank the members of the

William J. Denver Chapter for their altruistic endeavors and generosity towards some of our

country’s most deserving individuals, our veterans; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to John Kent, Verizon Government Affairs, and

Christine Casino, President, William J. Denver Chapter.
