S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A SPECIAL SENATE COMMISSION TO STUDY THE DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Ruggerio, DaPonte, and Goodwin

     Date Introduced: June 30, 2011

 

     

     RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission to be known as the “Division of

Motor Vehicles Study Commission” be and the same is hereby created consisting of nine (9)

members. Three (3) of whom shall be members of the Senate, not more than two (2) from the

same political party; one of whom shall be the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles; one of

whom shall be a representative of Rhode Island Correctional Industries appointed by the Senate

President; one of whom shall be a representative of the Rhode Island State Police appointed by

the Senate President; one of whom shall be a representative of the Rhode Island League of Cities

and Towns appointed by the Senate President; one of whom shall be a representative of the

Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority appointed by the Senate President; and one of

whom shall be a member of the public appointed by the Senate President.

     The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study and issue

findings about:

     (1) Customer service at the division of motor vehicles

     (2) Current and new technologies available to design, manufacture and issue license

plates;

     (3) The period of time license plates shall be issued;

     (4) Inventory management; and

     (5) Use of license plates by law enforcement and toll authority cameras;

     Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at

the call of the President of the Senate who shall select a chairperson. Vacancies in said

commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. The membership of said

commission shall receive no compensation for their services. All departments and agencies of the

state shall furnish such advice and information, documentary and otherwise, to said commission

and its agents as is deemed necessary or desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of

this resolution. The Joint Committee on Legislative Services is hereby authorized and directed to

provide suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the

Senate no later than December 31, 2011, and said commission shall expire on January 31, 2012.
