H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING THURSDAY, MAY 10, 2012, TO BE "YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR DAY" IN

THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The MET is a network of six small, public high schools located in

Providence and Newport, that share and strive for the core values of high standards and strong

family engagement; and

     WHEREAS, The MET’s individualized learning approach has proven successful in

unlocking a passion for learning in its students and its schools have been a tremendous asset to

Rhode Island’s educational community as an inspiration to innovation in education; and 

     WHEREAS, As listeners, teachers, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors, the

MET School fills many crucial roles for its students; and

     WHEREAS, The MET empowers students to take charge of their learning and to become

responsible citizens and life-long learners; and

     WHEREAS, Thomas Edison once said, "I never perfected an invention that I did not

think about in terms of the service it might give others... I find out what the world needs, then I

proceed to invent." The MET School not only inspires its students to think in these terms, but also

embodies this very philosophy; and

     WHEREAS, On May 10th of 2012, The MET School’s Center for Innovation and

Entrepreneurship will officially open its doors to celebrate Young Entrepreneur Day; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims May 10, 2012, to be “Young Entrepreneur Day” in our

state.  We furthermore join the MET School in urging all the citizens of the state to take the time

to recognize and acknowledge the impact of innovative education on our lives and on the futures

of children; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The MET School in Providence.
