H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING MAY 29, 2012, AS "HOME CARE AND HOSPICE DAY AT THE STATE HOUSE 2012" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives McNamara, and Naughton

     WHEREAS, Home care services provide high quality and compassionate health care

services to those in need, especially at times of community or personal health care crisis; and

     WHEREAS, Home care is the most preferred method of health care delivery among

disabled, elderly, and chronically ill individuals eager to live independently in their own homes as

long as they possibly can; and

     WHEREAS, Home care allows families to stay together and provides for greater health,

dignity, and comfort in our communities; and

     WHEREAS, Home care is a growing alternative to hospitalization or other institution-

based forms of health care for acute and chronic illnesses, providing care to millions of

Americans each year; and

     WHEREAS, Thousands of everyday heroes such as home care nurses, therapists, and

aides work tirelessly to provide professional help and palliative care and support to millions of

Americans in need of quality health services; and

     WHEREAS, Hospice care provides humane and comforting support for terminally ill

patients and their families, including pain control, palliative medical care, and social, emotional,

and spiritual services; and

     WHEREAS, Hospice fulfills the basic human needs of feeling comfortable in familiar

surroundings and of attaining physical and emotional peace during the last stage of life; and

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, which represents the voice of

home care and hospice care, has declared that Health Care is Coming Home; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes May 29, 2012, as “Home Care and Hospice Day at the

State House 2012” in Rhode Island; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mary Benway, President of the Rhode Island

Partnership for Home Care.
