FIRST CHURCH OF GOD, PEACE DALE

Introduced By: Senator V. Susan Sosnowski

     Date Introduced: June 20, 2013

WHEREAS, The Church of God, located in Peace Dale, was born out of a request made

by the late Annie Potter during a revival meeting at Providence’s Salem Avenue Church of God,

the place where she met Elder William W. White. Upon seeing a small, unused church on

Kingston Road, Elder White consented to come from his hometown in Maryland to open the

doors of the Church of God, Kingston, in September, 1928. For the next decade, W. W. White led

the church, moving about the community on foot and carrying out a ministry of healing and

evangelism which effectively influenced and impacted the lives of many; and

WHEREAS, It was under the leadership of Rev. Harold S. Mars that the congregation

moved to its present place of worship on Allens Avenue. With a beautiful facility, strong

ministry, and growing congregation, The First Church of God, Peace Dale, emerged as a vital part

of the local community; and

WHEREAS, Peace Dale First Church of God is now a place full of warm, loving, down-

to-earth and diverse people who desire to live out and share the peace of Christ. As a multi-

cultural congregation, church members deeply value relationships and unity. They firmly believe

that the peace of Jesus brings people of all ages, all races, and all backgrounds together into a

single family; and

WHEREAS, The eighty-five year history of ministry, leadership, and stewardship of the

men and women of the First Church of God testify to its rich Christian heritage. The community

has benefited from the contributions of this diverse body through the years, and the many pastors

and leaders who have emerged from this congregation to serve the church’s mission in other

countries mean that its blessings are truly felt throughout the world; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates the First Church of God, Peace Dale, on the occasion of the eighty-fifth

anniversary of its founding. We wish the church, its leaders, and its congregation continued

spiritual success and many more years of community enrichment and service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Pastor Angela Sagesse, First Church of God,

Peace Dale.
