H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

COMMEMORATING THE CELEBRATION OF "ARBOR DAY" ON APRIL 25TH OF 2014 IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, April 25th of 2014 marks the one hundred twenty-seventh anniversary of the observance of Arbor Day in Rhode Island and is set aside to commemorate the growing, protecting, and maintaining of trees; and

WHEREAS, Our countryside is blessed with a plentiful number and variety of trees, that beautify our landscape, add a touch of nature to our cities and towns, provide a locale where people can find wholesome recreation, and serve as one of the major building blocks in the development of this nation; and

WHEREAS, Our forests and trees provide food to eat, yield paper for the books from which we obtain and share great knowledge, and produce materials from which we build our homes as well as provide us with thousands of other useful products; and

WHEREAS, Our forests are the origin of clear, clean drinking water, serve to purify the air, and hold intact the precious topsoil of our land; and

WHEREAS, We would not be able to enjoy the quiet solitude of the forest glen or the joyous setting of a family picnic were it not for trees; and

WHEREAS, Trees are the mightiest creation of the plant kingdom and we should be conscious each and every day of the vital need to conserve and use wisely this wonderful, renewable resource; and

WHEREAS, It is the duty of mankind to plant and maintain trees for future generations; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby proclaims April 25th of 2014 to be "Arbor Day" in the State of Rhode Island. We moreover encourage all our citizenry to recognize the importance of this day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to all general office holders and members of the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation.
