Date Introduced: March 31, 2015

WHEREAS, The Month of April, 2015, will be celebrated across the country as the
"Month of the Military Child" by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Every
day, military families across the nation make numerous sacrifices to support the men and women
in our armed forces, the people who we depend on to defend and preserve the freedoms and
liberties that have made our nation the most free nation on earth; and
WHEREAS, On a regular basis, military families move around the nation and the globe,
following their military serving spouses and parents. Military children change schools frequently
and this can be a difficult and stressful period for both the children and their parents. The average
military family faces two moves during a child’s high school years, and on average these children
will attend six to nine different schools from kindergarten through the twelfth grade; and
WHEREAS, During the month of April, there will be numerous special activities
celebrating the Month of the Military Child. PURPLE UP! Day will be celebrated by the DoDEA
on April 15, 2015, where everyone will be encouraged to wear purple to celebrate military
families. Other activities in April will include Patches of Honor, where kids will be invited to
submit their own design of a Patch of Honor, saluting military children at sporting events, hosting
school assemblies in honor of military children, and other assorted special events that focus on
celebrating and honoring military families; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
