S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 13, 2015, TO BE "ALEXANDRA CURTIS DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND CONGRATULATING HER ON WINNING THE 2015 MISS RHODE ISLAND PAGEANT

     WHEREAS, Accomplished young women from across Rhode Island participated in the
2015 annual Miss Rhode Island Pageant. Competing as Miss West Warwick, Alexandra Curtis
took top honors and was crowned as the 2015 Miss Rhode Island. In September, she will
represent our state at the National Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and
     WHEREAS, No stranger to winning pageants, Alexandra was selected as Miss East
Greenwich in 2014, was named Miss West Warwick in 2015, and was selected as a 2015 Cherry
Blossom Princess, representing Rhode Island in the National Cherry Blossom Festival; and
     WHEREAS, Alexandra is doubly blessed. She is not only a celebrated beauty, but also
possesses amazing brainpower. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Affairs program
at Brown University and is a 2014 honors graduate of Syracuse University; and
     WHEREAS, In addition, as part of the preliminary for the Miss Rhode Island Pageant,
Alexandra held fundraisers in West Warwick, collecting over $2,000 in donations for the
Children’s Miracle Network; and
     WHEREAS, The daughter of Kathi and Mark Curtis, Alexandra's accomplishments have
not only brought great pride and recognition to her parents and the Town of West Warwick, but
also to our state; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby proclaims September 13th of 2015 to be "Alexandra Curtis Day." We moreover
congratulate her on being named Miss Rhode Island 2015, and wish her much happiness, good
health, and continued success at the Miss America Pageant; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Miss Alexandra Curtis.
