S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N
AFFIRMING THAT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS SHALL GIVE DUE CONSIDERATION TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE RHODE ISLAND STATEWIDE TASK FORCE TO ADDRESS ADULT SEXUAL ASSAULT AND WILL WORK TOWARD LEGISLATIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS

     WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations
deplores the prevalence of sexual assault in our society and in 2015, passed a resolution
respectfully requesting that the Rhode Island Statewide Task Force To Address Adult Sexual
Assault provide a report on its findings and recommendations to increase the reporting
requirements and decrease the instances of sexual assaults in our state; and
     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Statewide Task Force To Address Adult Sexual Assault
consists of members from state and local law enforcement and prosecution agencies, advocacy
groups such as Day One, and professionals from social services, and members of the medical and
higher education fields; and
     WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Statewide
Task Force To Address Adult Sexual Assault are working together to fully support victims of this
crime, and to find better solutions and pathways to reduce and eradicate the prevalence of sexual
assault, abuse and violence in Rhode Island; and
     WHEREAS, In May of 2016, the Task Force published a report in response to the request
by the Senate of the State of Rhode Island, which report was noted to be an Interim Report which
presented findings and recommendations; and
     WHEREAS, Said report contains numerous findings and recommendations regarding the
reporting of sexual assaults, medical care for sexual assault victims and first responder training on
the treatment of sexual assault victims, including recommendations for legislative changes and
additions; now, therefore, be it
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and the Providence
Plantations will hereby give the findings and recommendations of the Rhode Island Statewide
Task Force To Address Adult Sexual Assault paramount thought and consideration and will
diligently work toward legislative implementation of those recommendations in order to increase
the reporting and decrease the instances of sexual assaults in our state.
