H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
JOYFULLY CELEBRATING THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BURRILLVILLE LIONS CLUB IN 2017

     WHEREAS, The Lions Club International is a service organization that is comprised of
more than 46,000 clubs and has more than 1.4 million members representing more than 200
countries; and
     WHEREAS, The Lions Clubs were created for the purposes of harnessing, in an
organized and efficient manner, the creative talents and intelligence of those in the local
community with a desire to serve others. The principles of good citizenship and good fellowship
were prioritized along with engaging in charitable service projects and endeavors with the hope of
making the world and neighborhoods better places to love; and
     WHEREAS, The Burrillville Lions Club was chartered on March 26, 1947, and since
then, they have made a positive impact on all walks of life in the Burrillville and wider
community. Thanks to the Burrillville Lions Club, many Burrillville students receive scholarships
to go to college. They also run a "Learn to Swim" program for local youth, and on Earth Day, 150
Burrillville Lions Club volunteers conduct a town-wide celebration and organize numerous clean-
up projects. In addition, the Burrillville Lions Club annually helps numerous local citizens who
request assistance from them; and
      WHEREAS, The Burrillville Lions Club is very involved in sight conservation issues.
They raise money to help people attain much-needed eye exams, and they coordinate the
collection of eyeglasses for reuse by those unable to afford necessary prescription lenses; and
     WHEREAS, The Burrillville Lions Club is also very active in raising money and
supporting children who suffer from various illnesses. They actively support the Ronald
McDonald House of Providence and run numerous "White Cane Day" fundraisers in which they
raise money to assist cancer-stricken children and their families. Thanks to the hard work and
tireless devotion of Club President Thomas P. Tatro, today the Lions Club continues to be a force
for good in Burrillville and the wider community; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby joyfully celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the Burrillville Lions
Club in 2017; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Thomas P. Tatro, President of the
Burrillville Lions Club.
