H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE CITY OF NEWPORT'S FIFTH ANNUAL "DAFFODIL DAYS FESTIVAL" ON APRIL 14TH THROUGH 22ND

     WHEREAS, In 2006, The Daffodil Project, an avid group of Newport residents formed a
committee and began planting daffodils throughout the City of Newport; and
     WHEREAS, The Alliance for a Livable Newport's "Daffodillion," was then created to
further the beautification of Newport with a goal of planting one million daffodils; and
     WHEREAS, With numerous philanthropic donors, including the support of myriad
groups such as The Preservation Society of Newport County, the Newport Restoration
Foundation, The 1772 Foundation, The Acquidneck Land Trust, and Salve Regina University, as
well as professional and weekend gardeners throughout the City-by-the-Sea, 850,000 daffodils,
have thus far been planted in Newport; and
     WHEREAS, After a frigid and exceedingly snowy winter, the sight of these cheery,
bright yellow daffodils will be a heart-warming, life-affirming, and ultimately welcome sight for
even the most stalwart New Englander; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby celebrates the City of Newport's "Daffodil Days Festival" and
encourages all Rhode Islanders to visit Newport April 14th through the 22nd to experience the joys
and beauty of spring. We furthermore recognize and thank the volunteers and supporters of
Daffodillion, for helping to brighten our state and our lives; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Alliance for a Livable Newport.
