S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N
RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSECRATION OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PARISH CHURCH

     WHEREAS, Immaculate Conception Parish was chartered on September 30th of 1958, in
the Garden Hills Section of the City of Cranston: and
     WHEREAS, The original building was the old Alpine Club and the first Masses were
celebrated in one of the game rooms, with overflow seating available in the dining rooms.
Shortly thereafter, a 375-person cinder block addition was built; and
     WHEREAS, As the parish continued to grow, the process of planning for the erection of
a new building began in April of 1959, under the direction of Monsignor William Murray who
had been appointed pastor after the untimely passing of founding pastor, Fr. Robert Meadows;
and
     WHEREAS, Nine parcels of land, encompassing eight and one-half acres were
purchased, and after a number of delays, blueprints for the new church were drawn in 1964 by
architect, Mr. Oresto DiSaia and interior liturgical expert, Mr. Louis Armento; and
     WHEREAS, A pledge campaign to raise the necessary funding ensued and was quickly
successful and construction of the new church began; and
     WHEREAS, On June 30th of 1968, the newly built church was consecrated by the Most
Rev. Russell J. McVinney, Bishop of Providence; and
     WHEREAS, Over the past five decades, through the power of the Holy Spirit, the parish
has grown to now serve more than 2,500 families and blessed by the outstanding and devout
leadership of Reverend Edward Wilson, the parish continues to flourish and provide for the
spiritual needs of the surrounding community; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby recognizes and celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the consecration of the Immaculate
Conception Parish Church. It is a special occasion to be celebrated by giving thanks to God for
his many blessings over the past fifty years; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Reverend Edward Wilson, Immaculate
Conception Parish Church.
