S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N
EXTENDING THE REPORTING AND EXPIRATION DATES, AND AMENDING THE LANGUAGE OF THE SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO EXAMINE THE ADVISABILITY OF RHODE ISLAND JOINING THE INTERSTATE LICENSURE COMPACT

     RESOLVED, That the special Senate commission created by resolution No. 360 passed
by the Senate at its January session, A.D. 2017, and approved June 30, 2017, entitled "Senate
Resolution Creating a Special Legislative Commission to examine the Advisability of Rhode
Island Joining the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact" and as extended by resolution No. 118
passed by the Senate at its January session, A.D. 2018, and approved March 15, 2018, entitled
"Senate Resolution Extending the reporting and expiration Dates of the Special Legislative
Commission to examine the Advisability of Rhode Island Joining the Interstate Medical
Licensure Compact" is hereby authorized to continue its study and make a report to the Senate on
or before January 1, 2019, and said commission shall expire on January 31, 2019; and be it
further
     RESOLVED, That the time for reporting authorized by resolution No. 360 passed by the
Senate at its January session, A.D. 2017, and approved June 30, 2017, and as extended by
resolution No. 118 passed by the Senate at its January session, A.D. 2018, and approved March
15, 2018, be and the same is hereby rescinded; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That said legislative commission created by resolution No. 360 passed by
the Senate at its January session, A.D. 2017, and approved June 30, 2017, is hereby amended by
deleting on page 2, line 13 the language "therefore be it" and by inserting in place thereof the
language:
     "and
     WHEREAS, "Maintenance of certification (MOC)" is a continuous professional
development program through which physicians certified by one or more of the medical specialty
boards; and
     WHEREAS, Maintenance of certification is controversial and is of concern to some
physicians; now, therefore be it" and be it further
     RESOLVED, That said legislative commission created by resolution No. 360 passed by
the Senate at its January session, A.D. 2017, and approved June 30, 2017, is hereby amended by
adding the following language on page 2, following line 25;
     "That said legislative commission shall also consider the issue of maintenance of
certification while examining the advisability of Rhode Island joining the Interstate Medical
Licensure Compact."
