COMMEMORATING THE 84TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS (DAV) DEPARTMENT OF RHODE ISLAND

Introduced By: Representatives Vella-Wilkinson, Williams, Morin, Jackson, and Carson
Date Introduced: April 23, 2019

WHEREAS, The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of Rhode Island has
been "empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity" for the past
eighty-four years; and
WHEREAS, The DAV has been accomplishing this noble goal by ensuring access to the
full range of benefits that are available to veterans and their families, and by advocating on behalf
of veterans in Washington, D.C., and continuously underscoring their heroic service and great
sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, Annually, through the DAV, more than 1 million veterans connect with the
healthcare, disability, employment, education, and financial benefits that they have earned and
that are vitally necessary to assist them in transitioning back to civilian life; and
WHEREAS, Navigating the transition from service to civilian life is not always easy, but
with the help of DAV, no veteran has to go it alone. DAV provides a lifetime of support for
veterans of all generations and their families in positive, life-changing ways; and
WHEREAS, Nationally, for nearly 100 years, the DAV has been "Building Better Lives
for America's Disabled Veterans" and has submitted more than 11 million claims on behalf of
veterans; and
WHEREAS, Annually, the DAV Department of Rhode Island and the Disabled American
Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) hold a Convention. This year's Convention, held on April 26-27,
2019, will include an Awards Ceremony, Memorial Service, and Commander's Recognition
Dinner; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby recognizes that our freedom and human rights are safeguarded by
the heroic service of all the valiant and dauntless members of the Armed Forces; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this House hereby commemorates the 84th Anniversary of the
Disabled American Veterans Department of Rhode Island and thanks them for "Fulfilling our
Promises to the Men and Women Who Served"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Alan C. Conca, Commander of the DAV
Department of RI.
