| RELATING TO AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE NORTH PROVIDENCE CHARTER INCREASING THE ANNUAL SALARY OF MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL, COMMENCING JANUARY 3, 2023 |

| It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: |
| SECTION 1. Pursuant to the request of the North Providence Town Council by resolution |
| adopted on May 4, 2022, Article 2, Chapter 1, Section 4 (2-1-4) of the North Providence Town |
| Council is hereby amended to read as follows: |
| 2-1-4 Compensation. |
| (a) Beginning with the term that commences in January of 2001, and each year thereafter |
| continuing until January 2, 2023, all members of the council shall be compensated at an annual |
| salary of eight thousand dollars ($8,000). Said eight thousand dollars ($8,000) shall be paid as |
| compensation in lieu of any other benefits received by prior council members with the exclusion |
| of any pension benefit which council members shall continue to receive simultaneously with the |
| eight thousand dollars ($8,000) annual salary. No council may increase its compensation during its |
| own term of office and may only pass certain resolutions in compliance with applicable state laws. |
| (90-H 4248 ยง 1, July 9, 1990; 2000-H 8338, July 20, 2000). |
| (b) Commencing on January 3, 2023, and each year thereafter, all members of the council |
| shall be compensated at an annual salary of fourteen thousand four hundred dollars ($14,400). Said |
| fourteen thousand four hundred dollars ($14,400) shall be paid as compensation in lieu of any other |
| benefits received by prior council members with the exclusion of any pension benefit which council |
| members shall continue to receive simultaneously with the fourteen thousand four hundred dollar |
| ($14,400) annual salary. No council may increase its compensation during its own term of office |
| and may only pass certain resolutions in compliance with state law. |
| SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
