H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (DEM) TO PERFORM WATER QUALITY AND RESILIENCE ASSESSMENTS AT STATE PARKS

     WHEREAS, Water quality and resilience assessments at State Parks affected by impaired
waters is necessary for the protection and restoration of the quality of water resources in the State
of Rhode Island; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
respectfully requests the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to assess the
potential impacts and vulnerability of impervious surface areas at State Parks on waterbodies
listed as impaired under the Clean Water Act, Section 303(d), where the impervious surface area
is greater than 10,000 square feet and located within 500 feet of the impaired waterbody; and be it
further
     RESOLVED, That this House hereby requests that the assessments include, at a
minimum, Fort Adams State Park, Goddard State Park, Lincoln Woods and Colt State Park; and
be it further
     RESOLVED, That this House hereby further requests that DEM prepares a report that
includes plans and cost estimates for addressing stormwater, resilience and sea level rise at these
four parks and any others that the Department may elect to include on the basis of similar needs
to the House of Representatives on or before March 31, 2023; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Terrence Gray, Director of the Department of
Environmental Management.
