Introduced By: Representatives Ackerman, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Kazarian, Kislak, Finkelman, Boylan, Knight, McNamara, and Slater

Date Introduced: January 10, 2023

WHEREAS, Antisemitism is a virulent and disgraceful form of hate and persecution that
continues to assault our humanity; and
WHEREAS, In recent years, our state and our country has been plagued with a clear and
troubling pattern of increased aggression and cruelty against Jewish persons; and
WHEREAS, In 2021, the United States endured 2,717 antisemitic attacks, the highest
incidence of assault, harassment and vandalism against Jewish persons in more than forty years;
and
WHEREAS, In November of 2022, Rhode Island suffered an escalation in these vicious
attacks with the systematic distribution of hundreds of leaflets containing antisemitic propaganda
throughout neighborhoods in Providence, Warwick and North Providence; and
WHEREAS, These malevolent acts are an affront to our State's Jewish community and to
all Rhode Island citizens; and
WHEREAS, Antisemitism in any form breeds violence and it is essential that police,
businesses, individuals and law makers at all levels step forward to call out, report, and play an
essential role in denouncing and counteracting the resurgence of any and all antisemitism in our
State; and
WHEREAS, As individuals, as a state, and as a nation, Americans of all races, creeds and
colors must unite against the vile antisemitism, bigotry, and the rage that continues to plague our
world; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
comprehensively and completely denounces bigotry, prejudice, and antisemitism. We moreover
condemn the ideologies of all hate groups who systematically judge, minimize, persecute, or
obstruct individuals based on religion, skin color, or gender; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this House urges all Rhode Islanders and all Americans to unite
against those who espouse all forms of hatred, discrimination, and violence, and to stand with our
Jewish community, friends, and neighbors "so no one stands alone"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island.
