It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows
SECTION 1. Chapter 27-18 of the general laws entitled "Accident and Sickness Insurance Policies" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
{ADD 27-18-44. Primary and preventive obstetric and gynecologic care. -- ADD} {ADD Any insurer or nonprofit health service plan that provides coverage for obstetric/gynecologic care for issuance or delivery in the state to any group or individual on an expense-incurred basis, including a health maintenance organization shall permit a woman to receive an annual visit to an in-network obstetrician/gynecologist for routine gynecological care without requiring the woman to first obtain a referral from a primary care provider. ADD}
SECTION 2. Chapter 27-19 of the general laws entitled "Nonprofit Hospital Service Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
{ADD 27-19-36. Primary and preventive obstetric and gynecologic care. -- ADD} {ADD Any insurer or nonprofit health service plan that provides hospital, medical or surgical benefits for issuance or delivery in the state to any group or individual on an expense-incurred basis, including a health maintenance organization shall permit a woman to receive an annual visit to an in-network obstetrician/gynecologist for routine gynecological care without requiring the woman to first obtain a referral from a primary care provider. ADD}
SECTION 3. Chapter 27-20 of the general laws entitled "Nonprofit Medical Service Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
{ADD 27-20-31. Primary and preventive obstetric and gynecologic care. -- ADD} {ADD Any insurer or nonprofit health service plan that provides hospital, medical or surgical benefits for issuance or delivery in the state to any group or individual on an expense-incurred basis, including a health maintenance organization shall permit a woman to receive an annual visit to an in-network obstetrician/gynecologist for routine gynecological care without requiring the woman to first obtain a referral from a primary care provider. ADD}
SECTION 4. Chapter 27-41 of the general laws entitled "Health Maintenance Organization" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

Primary and preventive obstetric and gynecologic care. -- ADD} {ADD Any insurer or nonprofit health service plan that provides hospital, medical or surgical benefits for issuance or delivery in the state to any group or individual on an expense-incurred basis, including a health maintenance organization shall permit a woman to receive an annual visit to an in-network obstetrician/gynecologist for routine gynecological care without requiring the woman to first obtain a referral from a primary care provider. ADD}
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect January 1, 1998.
