It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows

SECTION 1. Section 45-25-10.2 of the General Laws in Chapter 45-25 entitled "City Housing Authorities" is hereby amended to read as follows:

45-25-10.2. City of Newport housing authority. -- Notwithstanding the provisions of section 45-25-10, commencing September 1, 1994 the housing authority of the city of Newport shall be expanded in size from five (5) members to seven (7) members. The two (2) additional members shall be residents of public housing facilities in the city of Newport. Each shall be appointed for a {DEL one (1) DEL} {ADD four (4) ADD} year term by the mayor who shall make said appointments from a list of persons nominated by the residents. Each year the residents of each public housing facility shall by election nominate two (2) residents of that facility to said list.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
