WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Division of Taxation currently sends tax preparation booklets to all of the state's taxpayer's including people who have their taxes professionally prepared; and
WHEREAS, It makes little fiscal sense for the Ocean State to continue to incur this great expense when so many taxpayers neither need, nor use, these booklets; and
WHEREAS, The Internal Revenue Service no longer mails federal tax preparation booklets to taxpayers who have their returns professionally prepared. It is certainly time for Rhode Island to adopt this sensible and frugal policy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests that the Rhode Island Division of Taxation inform taxpayers, who have had their tax returns professionally prepared for three consecutive years, or longer, that they will no longer automatically receive tax preparation booklets from the Division of Taxation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Governor Lincoln C. Almond and to the Associated Director of the Division of Taxation.
