H O U S E    R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING ARTHUR ELMASIAN ON HIS RETIREMENT

WHEREAS, Arthur Elmasian is retiring after 42 years of dedicated, devoted and distinguished service to the students and citizens of East Providence as a teacher, coach and administrator in the East Providence Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Born in 1932, son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Elmasian, Arthur graduated from East Providence High School in 1949, received a B.A. in Education and Math in 1953 from Providence College, and received a Masters in Education in 1967 from Bridgewater University. Arthur served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army from 1953-1955; and

WHEREAS, Arthur began his teaching career in East Providence as a math teacher in 1955 at Central Junior High. In 1967, he was named Mathematics Coordinator and in 1970, Arthur was chosen to be Vice Principal at Central Junior High. Since 1979, Arthur has been the Senior High School Principal and the Secondary Summer School Principal; and

WHEREAS, Arthur has also been very active in numerous civic and community endeavors. He was the varsity baseball coach from 1966-1970 at Central Junior High and was the former director of baseball and football for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. He was also director of the United Fund Campaign and is currently Chairman of the Rhode Island Principals Committee on Athletics; and

WHEREAS, Arthur is the devoted father of Oscar, John, and Elizabeth Elmasian, and Catherine Croke and is the proud grandfather of four; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Arthur Elmasian on his retirement and thanks him for his many years of devoted and distinguished service to the students and citizens of East Providence; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Arthur Elmasian.
