H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JULY 6 - 12, 1997 AS "PARENTS WITHOUT PARTNERS WEEK"

WHEREAS, Many families throughout Rhode Island and across the nation are headed by single parents; and

WHEREAS, Single parents must constantly contend with the economic and emotional consequences of separation, divorce, or death on their children and themselves; and

WHEREAS, By providing professional, educational, and recreational services, many concerned organizations such as Parents Without Partners, Incorporated offer significant assistance to single parents and their families, helping them to cope with difficult issues and circumstances; and

WHEREAS, These caring people provide much needed experience and understanding to single parents and often guide them to a new sense of self-reliance; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby proclaims July 6 - 12, 1997 as "Parents Without Partners Week," and urges all of the citizens of the Ocean State to take cognizance of this event and participate in its observances; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Frederick J. Crosby, President of Parents Without Partners, Incorporated, in Rhode Island.
