It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 36-10 of the General Laws entitled "Retirement System--Contributions and Benefits" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
{ADD 36-10-9.7. Electronic funds transfer. -- ADD}{ADD All members of the employees retirement system retiring under the provisions of titles 42, 8, 36 or 16 of the Rhode Island general laws on or after July 1, 1998, shall be required to participate in electronic funds transfer and to supply the employees retirement system with a bank routing number to effectuate a monthly transfer of benefits. ADD}
SECTION 2. Chapter 45-21 of the General Laws entitled "Retirement of Municipal Employees" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

Electronic funds transfer. -- ADD} {ADD All members of the municipal employees retirement system retiring under the provisions of this title on or after July 1, 1998, shall be required to participate in electronic funds transfer and to supply the municipal employees retirement system with a bank routing number to effectuate a monthly transfer of benefits. ADD}
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.
