It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 23-3 of the General Laws entitled "Vital Records" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
{ADD 23-3-24.1. Native Americans -- Certified copies of birth records. -- ADD} {ADD Any American Indian or Native American whose certified copy of a birth record contains a racial designation that is incorrect may, without paying a fee, obtain one (1) certified copy of his or her birth record from which such incorrect racial designation has been amended. The person requesting the birth record shall provide satisfactory proof from a tribal authority. ADD}
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
