A N     A C T

RELATING TO PAYMENT OF FINES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 45-6.1-4 of the General Laws in Chapter 45-6.1 entitled "NON-MOVING TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS" is hereby amended to read as follows:

45-6.1-4. Time and manner of payment. -- {ADD (a) ADD} The ordinances referred to in section 45-6.1-1 shall establish times during which the privilege of paying the fine by mail may be exercised, but the time shall be not less than five (5) days from the date of the offense to the date of depositing of the payment of the fine in a depository maintained by the United States post office department for the collection of mails {DEL and the postage cancellation shall be prima facie evidence of the time of deposit DEL}.

{ADD (b) Any such fines shall be deemed to have been paid upon the date of mailing and the postage cancellation shall be prima facie evidence of the time of deposit. ADD}

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
