S E N A T E    R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING HARRY HOOPIS ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL AFTER OVER THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, Harry Hoopis, an outstanding and respected attorney with the Legislative Council, is retiring after over thirty years of dedicated service to the people of Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, Harry graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, University of Rhode Island and Suffolk University Law School. While still a student in law school, he worked as a social caseworker. Upon completing his studies, he became assistant legal counsel to the Department of Human Services. He then went on to serve as clerk of the Senate Labor Committee prior to becoming an attorney for the Legislative Council. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar, the Federal Bar for the District of Rhode Island and the United States Supreme Court Bar; and

WHEREAS, Harry is known as a person that legislators can always rely on to draft the most difficult of legislation under time constraints that would be impossible for anyone else. In addition, he has become a mentor and role model for young attorneys who have worked on the staff of the Legislative Council; and

WHEREAS, Harry and his wife, Angela, have been married for over thirty years, and are the proud parents of a son, Eric, and a daughter, Jennifer, who has joined her father in the practice of law. Although his retirement will be a loss to many legislators and co-workers, he will be able to spend more time with his family and take more of the skiing trips, which they have enjoyed over the years; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Harry Hoopis on his retirement after over thirty years of dedicated service to the State of Rhode Island. We wish him success in his law practice and much happiness with his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Harry Hoopis.
