PROCLAIMING JANUARY 18, 2000, TO BE "RHODE ISLAND WORKSITE WELLNESS DAY"

Introduced By:  Representatives Faria, Flaherty, Pires, Menard and Ferguson Date Introduced:  January 18, 2000

WHEREAS, The Worksite Wellness Council of RI is dedicated to improving the health and safety of working Rhode Islanders by promoting and supporting health worksites; and

WHEREAS, Worksite wellness programs lower healthcare costs, reduce absenteeism, increase productivity, reduce Workers' Compensation and disability management costs, minimize injuries and increase morale and company loyalty; and

WHEREAS, The Worksite Wellness Council of RI wants Rhode Island to become the first "Well State" as designated by the Wellness Councils of America; and

WHEREAS, The Worksite Wellness Council of RI and the Wellness Council of America work together and are sponsoring an informational breakfast for leaders of business, industry, organized labor, health care, public health, and education; and

WHEREAS, The Breakfast serves as the "kick-off" event for Rhode Island's "Well State" campaign and features Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., President, Moorhouse School of Medicine and former US Secretary of Health and Human Services as the guest speaker; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby declares January 18, 2000, to be "Rhode Island Worksite Wellness Day"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island.
