H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A PERMANENT STANDING HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY

SECTION 1. There is hereby created a Permanent Standing House Committee on Education Accountability consisting of nine (9) members which shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House, no more than seven (7) shall be from the same political party.

(a) The committee shall conduct hearings, review, make findings and evaluate all aspects of all levels of education, including but not limited to funding, student performance, expenditures, governance, programming, teacher preparation and planning as well as the work and operation of all state agencies regarding all levels of education, make findings and recommend policy initiatives and other actions to the General Assembly. The committee shall not vote on legislation.

(b) The committee shall also on a continuing basis exercise oversight in relation to the implementation of all legislation and grants of authority relating to all levels of public education in the state by all agencies, state and local, charged and empowered by the General Assembly in relation to all levels of public education.

All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, documentary and otherwise, to the committee and its agents as is deemed necessary or desirable by the committee to facilitate the purposes of this resolution.

The Joint Committee on Legislative Services may provide such funds as it deems necessary to carry out the purposes of this committee.

The speaker of the house is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable staff and quarters and the Rules of the House (Rule 30A) are hereby amended by adding the Permanent Standing House Committee on Education Accountability.

SECTION 2. This resolution shall take effect upon passage and become part of the Rules of the House of Representatives.
