H  O  U  S  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

DECLARING SUPPORT OF CONGRESSIONAL BILL H.R. 1070 AND S. 662

WHEREAS, H. R. 1070 and S. 662, companion legislation, was formulated with the purpose of giving states the option of providing Medicaid coverage to uninsured women screened and diagnosed with breast cancer through the Centers for Disease Control Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program; and

WHEREAS, Supporting legislation such as H.R. 1070 and S. 662 can ultimately decrease the number of individuals who have been afflicted with breast and cervical cancer; and

WHEREAS, It is common knowledge and a proven fact that screening alone does not prevent breast and cervical cancer deaths it must be coupled with treatment to save lives; and

WHEREAS, With more and more physicians moving into managed care, there has been a dramatic decline in the number of medical professionals available to provide free or reduced medical care. It is essential that we create a long-term solution to this problem. The need for this legislation is indeed paramount; and

WHEREAS, It is our very own mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, granddaughters and friends that are being afflicted with these life stripping diseases. Therefore we are compelled to express our unanimous support for the passage of these bills; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode and Providence Plantations hereby declare their support of Congressional Bill H.R. 1070 and S. 662; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island delegation to the United States Congress.
