PROCLAIMING APRIL 24, 2000 AS THE "ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROCLAMATION OF THE IRISH REPUBLIC"

Introduced By:  Representatives McNamara, Garabedian, Watson and Martineau Date Introduced:  April 12, 2000

WHEREAS, April 24, 2000 marks the 84th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic in Dublin; and

WHEREAS, The events of Easter Week 1916, and the executions which followed it laid the groundwork for the eventual declaration of Irish Independence in 1919; and

WHEREAS, The war for independence which resulted, led to the establishment of the IRISH FREE STATE in 1922 and the establishment of the Republic of Ireland in 1949; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby proclaims that April 24, 2000 be celebrated as the "Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic".
