ENDORSING AND RECOMMENDING THE GRANT APPLICATION OF THE CENTRAL RHODE ISLAND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO THE RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATION

WHEREAS, The Central Rhode Island Development Corporation is a private non-profit regional economic development corporation which assists manufacturing firms in becoming more competitive and growth oriented; and

WHEREAS, The organization has an innovative program and successful economic development delivery system called the Growth TEAM; and

WHEREAS, The Growth TEAM has had a positive impact on the manufacturing sector in the nine central Rhode Island communities of Cranston, Coventry, East Greenwich, East Providence, Exeter, Johnston, North Kingstown, Warwick and West Warwick; and

WHEREAS, The organization is seeking to expand its service area to replicate the success of the Growth TEAM in assisting the manufacturing firms in Central Falls, Pawtucket, Lincoln and Smithfield; and

WHEREAS, The organization is submitting a grant application to the Rhode Island Foundation for the express purpose of making available the resources of the Growth TEAM to the nearly 400 manufacturing firms in these four targeted northern Rhode Island communities; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby endorses and recommends the grant application of the Central Rhode Island Development Corporation and urges favorable consideration by the Rhode Island Foundation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is authorized and directed in transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Governor, Mr. Ronald Thorpe of the Rhode Island Foundation and Mr. Lawrence Kunkel of the Central Rhode Island Development Corporation.
