H  O  U  S  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

RESPECTFULLY URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO PROVIDE FULL AND PERMANENT FUNDING FOR THE FEDERAL LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND

WHEREAS, America's national parks are national treasures that celebrate our natural and cultural heritage. They must be preserved and protected; and

WHEREAS, Our national parks are seriously threatened by sprawl and commercial development. Only by acting quickly and responding now, can we preserve our cultural heritage and maintain and enhance the pristine beauty of our national parks; and

WHEREAS, Our national parks provide a haven for endangered wildlife, are places where citizens can interact with the natural wonders that nature has provided us, and are a link connecting this generation and hopefully future generations with our ancestors who preceded us and gave us these great gifts trusting that we would preserve them and maintain America's history and cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, As one of the original thirteen states, Rhode Islanders are distinctly aware of America's history and are passionate about protecting and preserving the cultural heritage that our forefathers passed on to us; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully urges the United States Congress to provide full and permanent funding for the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the entire Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, and House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
