H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
DIRECTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION TO ASSIGN NECESSARY DEPARTMENT STAFF TO PERFORM FUNCTIONS REQUIRED BY THE COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING AND LAND USE REGULATION ACT, 45-22
WHEREAS, There has been a dramatic increase in the development pressures on rural land in Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, The rural character of many of Rhode Island's towns is being threatened; and
WHEREAS, Several of Rhode Island's smaller communities may not be prepared to accommodate the increase in the planning workload without additional technical assistance; and
WHEREAS, Rural flight has important planning implications for Rhode Island's urban centers as well; and
WHEREAS, The important work of ensuring that town plans coordinate with their neighbors and do not work at cross-purposes is not being done in a timely fashion; and
WHEREAS, Parts of the state guide plan, designed to make sure that the state acts in a coordinated way, are out of date or expired; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby directs the Department of Administration to assign necessary department staff to perform functions required by the Comprehensive Planning and Land Use Regulation Act, 45-22; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Administration.
