H  O  U  S  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

CREATING A SPECIAL HOUSE COMMISSION TO STUDY FUTURE TRANSPORTATION FUNDING SOURCES

RESOLVED, That a special house commission be and the same is hereby created consisting of eighteen (18) members: six (6) of whom shall be from the house of representatives, not more than four (4) from the same political party, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall the director of the department of transportation, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be the general manager of the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be the executive director of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be the director of the department of administration, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be the director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be the director of Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority, or designee; one (1) of whom shall be a representative of the Sierra Club, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be a representative of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be a representative of the Rhode Island Road Builder's Association, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be a representative of the American Automobile Association Club, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be a representative of the AFL-CIO, to be appointed by the speaker; and one (1) of whom shall be a representative of GrowSmart RI, to be appointed by the speaker.

The Fiscal Advisor for the house of representatives, or designee, shall provide advice to said commission, as needed.

The purpose of the commission shall be to study future transportation funding sources affecting transportation in the State of Rhode Island.

Forthwith upon the passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at the call of the speaker and organize and shall select from among the representatives a chairperson. Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment.

The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services.

All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advise and information, documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agent as is deemed necessary or desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution.

The speaker is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its finding and recommendations to the house of representatives on or before March 6, 2001 and said commission shall expire on May 8, 2001.
