S  E  N  A  T  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF ROCKY POINT PARK AS OPEN SPACE

WHEREAS, The health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Warwick are matters of paramount importance to this Senate; and

WHEREAS, Rocky Point Park ceased operating as an amusement park some time ago; and

WHEREAS, Some of the owners of the property recently filed a bankruptcy petition with the Federal Bankruptcy Court; and

WHEREAS, It is desirable to preserve the land upon which Rocky Point Park was located as open space; and

WHEREAS, President Clinton recently announced a federal open space initiative; and

WHEREAS, Sufficient funding to purchase and preserve Rocky Point Park as open space would be needed from several sources, including federal, state and city funds; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby requests that the Governor, and the federal government provide funding for the purchase of Rocky Point Park to preserve the park as open space; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution for Governor Lincoln C. Almond, the entire

Rhode Island delegation to the United States Congress, and United States Secretary of the Interior.
