S  E  N  A  T  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 1, 2001 AS" PROVIDENCE MARINE CORPS OF ARTILLERY (PMCA) DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, From the Halls of Montezuma, to the Shores of Tripoli, the Marine Corps has a long and esteemed history of protecting and serving our great nation with respect, discipline and courage; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1801, the Providence Marine Corps of Artillery's primary purpose was to protect its members from the depredations of the British and French on the high seas. This year marks their 200th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Providence Marine Corps of Artillery is the mother of the artillery in the State of Rhode Island. It has furnished batteries to the United States Army in the Civil War in the 1860's; the Mexican Border in 1916; in World War I; World War II and the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, The grand traditions and proud service of the Marines are carried forward by the 103d FA Brigade and the 1st Battalion, 103d FA RIARRNG; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby extends their deepest admiration and proclaims December 1, 2001 to be "Providence Marine Corps of Artillery (PMCA) Day" in the State of Rhode Island; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Providence Marine Corps of Artillery (PMCA).
