J  O  I  N  T     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY THE PUBLIC PURPOSES TO BE ADVANCED BY THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THOSE AREAS MADE AVAILABLE BY THE RELOCATION OF ROUTE 195

RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created to study the public purposes to be advanced by the redevelopment of those area made available by the relocation of Route 195.

(a) There is hereby created a legislative commission consisting of ten (10) members to study the public purposes to be advanced by the redevelopment of those areas made available by the relocation of Route 195.

(b) The purpose of the legislative commission is to study the public purposes to be advanced by such an opportunity; maximizing the potential for federal, state, and private initiative to ensure positive economic impact from the advancement of such public purposes; and the ability to employ the redevelopment as a blueprint for future public-private investment in state infrastructure, economic welfare, economic opportunity, and the improvement of the competitive posture of the State of Rhode Island.

(c) The members of the legislative commission shall be appointed as follows:

(1) The Speaker of the House of Representatives shall appoint three (3) members of the House of Representatives from the majority party and one (1) member of the House of Representatives from the minority party;

(2) The Senate Majority Leader shall appoint three (3) members of the Senate from the majority party and one (1) member of the Senate from the minority party;

(3) The Speaker of the House of Representatives shall appoint one (1) public member; and

(4) The Senate Majority Leader shall appoint one (1) public member.

(d) The legislative commission shall be appointed no later than August 1, 2001.

(e) Members of the legislative commission shall serve without compensation.

(f) The legislative commission may request and shall receive from any instrumentality of the State such information and assistance as it deems necessary for the proper execution of its powers and duties under this section.

(g) A chairperson shall be elected by the members of the legislative commission; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the legislative commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Senate Majority Leader no later than January 1, 2002.
